Copper Trail Rovos Rail Journey

A fresh journey across Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Zambia, and Zimbabwe. For a sunset cruise, cross the formidable Zambezi from the legendary Victoria Falls and head towards the Kafue River. After seeing the elephant sanctuary in Lusaka, where volunteers save and care for young elephants in need, take a three-night safari flight into South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. This stunning game-rich park has an abundance of dramatic and fascinating topography, with the Muchinga Escarpment enclosing its western and northwest boundary and the meandering Luangwa River lining its southern border. After taking a tour of Lubumbashi (DRC), continue on to the historical copper trail for a few walking tours that cover the recent history of Angola, concluding at Lobito. Reverse accessible.

Day 1: Victoria Falls
16:00pm After leaving Victoria Falls, the train crosses the bridge and arrives at Livingstone. The province was named for the Scottish explorer and missionary David Livingstone, who was the first European to set foot in the region. Livingstone was the capital of the province until 2012. After changing into their suites, guests can join other travellers in the lounge or observation carriages.
Please make sure the administration deputy or train manager has a valid passport.

Day 2: Kafue River
In the lounge car, lectures will be held in the morning and/or afternoon during the trip.

12:30pm The dining cars are used for serving lunch. The Kafue railway bridge, a 477-meter-long steel girder truss bridge with 13 spans of 33 meters each supported on concrete piers, is crossed by the train.
14:30pm Get on board for a Kafue River sunset cruise (drinks included).
18:30pm Go back to the rail car.
19:30pm On the way to Lusaka, the nation's capital, dinner is provided in the dining cars for the duration of the trip. Formal attire is required.

Day 3: Elephant Sanctuary
07:00am The dining cars provide breakfast till 9:00 a.m.
09:00am See the elephant sanctuary in Lusaka. In order to get orphaned elephants back into the wild in Kafue National Park, teams rescue and rehabilitate them here.
13:00pm The dining cars are used for serving lunch. The rail journeys to Kabwe via the Central Province.
16:30pm Both the lounge car and the observation car serve tea.
19:30pm While travelling to spend the night in Kapiri Mposhi, dinner is served in the dining cars. Formal attire.

Day 4: South Luangwa National Park

If you plan to spend three nights in South Luangwa National Park, please bring a small overnight bag. We have arranged for baggage to be placed in your suite for convenience. Make sure you are dressed warmly for the game drives. If you would like to take part in the walking safaris, please make sure you have the appropriate footwear. Confirmed game drive time upon arrival. View the inclusions and exclusions. Kindly confirm that you have received your passport from the Administration Deputy or Train Manager.
07:00am Up to departure, breakfast is provided in the dining cars.
10:00am Proceed to Ndola Airstrip to board a chartered flight to South Luangwa National Park, which was named after the Luangwa Game Park when it was first established in 1904 and became one of the three game reserves in 1938. The magnificent park is located between 500 and 800 meters above sea level and spans around 9050 km2 of the Luangwa Valley floor. This stunning game-rich park has an abundance of dramatic and fascinating topography, with the Muchinga Escarpment bordering its western and northwest borders and the meandering Luangwa River lining its southern border.
12:00pm Move to the appropriate camps. When you arrive, enjoy lunch and check in.
15:30pm A three-hour game drive in the Luangwa Valley takes place in the afternoon.
19:30pm At the camps for dinner and the night. Wear something casual.

Day 5: South Luangwa National Park

06:00am Savour a continental breakfast.
06:30am Game drive in the early morning (around three hours).
10:00am It's brunch time. Free time in the afternoon.
15:30pm Game drive in the afternoon (around three hours).
19:30pm At the camps for dinner and the night. Casual attire.

Day 6: South Luangwa National Park

Day 7: South Luangwa National Park

Please make sure your luggage is prepared for pickup.
Check-out timings, breakfast, and a morning game drive (about two hours) will be confirmed.
Proceed to the airport in preparation for your scheduled trip to Ndola, Zambia.
12:00pm Go back on the train, transfer at Ndola Station.
For border formalities, do make sure the Administration Deputy or Train Manager has your passport.
13:00pm As the train heads near the border, lunch is served in the dining cars.
16:30pm Both the lounge car and the observation car serve tea.
19:30pm In the dining cars on the way to Lubumbashi, dinner is provided. Formal attire is required.

Day 8: Lubumbashi

06:00am The dining cars provide breakfast till 8:00 a.m.
08:00am Take pleasure in a car ride in Lubumbashi.
11:00am Back on the train, head for Lukuni.
13:00pm The dining cars are used for serving lunch. Luishia, an abandoned open-pit copper and cobalt mine, is passed by the train.
16:30pm Both the lounge car and the observation car serve tea.
19:30pm During the night, dinner is provided in the dining carriages while travelling to Kolwezi. Formal attire is required.

Day 9: Copper Mine

06:00am The dining cars provide breakfast till 8:00 a.m.
08:00am Set off for a visit to a copper mine in Kolwezi, which is home to one of the greatest known copper and cobalt resources in the world.
10:30am Savour breakfast at Katebi Lodge.
13:00pm Go back to the rail car. Make your way to Kasombo.
15:30pm Both the lounge car and the observation car serve tea.
19:30pm During the night, dinner is served in the dining cars as they travel to Mutshatsha. Formal attire is required.

Day 10: At Leisure Onboard

07:00am The dining cars provide breakfast till 10:00.
13:00pm The dining cars are used for serving lunch. En way to Malonga, the train passes via Kakopa.
16:30pm Both the lounge car and the observation car serve tea.

Day 11: Luau

11:00am Savour a stroll around Luau, the Benguela line's beginning.
12:00pm On its way to Luena is the train.

16:30pm As the train passes by the Cassai River, tea is served. The 900 000 km³ basin of the Cassai River is home to an exceptionally diverse fish species. Occasionally, the train passes via the villages of Cassai and Cameia, providing a chance to observe the local fishermen at work.
19:30pm During the night, dinner is provided in the dining carriages while travelling to Luena. Formal attire is required.

Day 12: Luena

07:00am The dining cars provide breakfast till 10:00.
10:00am Take a strolling tour of Luena to discover more about Angola's recent past.
11:00am Make your way to Tcholohanga, Tchicala.

Day 13: Kuito

11:00am Make your way to Huambo.

Day 14: Huambo

09:00am Take a tour of Huambo, the country's second-biggest metropolis and one of the former kingdoms located on the central plateau.
11:00am Make your way to Lépi.

Day 15: Lobito
