Tuningi Safari Lodge Lodge - Madikwe Game Reserve
Tuningi Safari Lodge – owned and built by Carl Trieloff and William Stephens in 2004 – has played a significant role in the sustainability of eco-tourism development, conservation and upliftment of the local rural communities within the Madikwe Game Reserve. They have worked on introducing investors to the Park, selling the land to them and ensuring it is developed within the ecological framework of the reserve.
In 2012, Tuningi Safari Lodge became part of the Seasons in Africa Luxury Portfolio, when the Kruger Family bought some shares from William Stephens. Heidi and Gavin Tonkinson have been running the lodge since 2005. Their dedication and love for Tuningi is evident in all aspects of the lodge. Due to their love of children, they converted it into a child friendly lodge ‘with a difference’ as soon as they arrived, and it continues to grow from strength to strength.
Tuningi Safari Lodge combines the wonders of the African bushveld, and the splendours of five star luxury with innovative programmes to entertain guests. The daily game drives, with informed and professional game rangers, are an exciting way of getting into the bush and experiencing all that it has to offer. Whether sipping ice-cold sundowners on the lodge’s expansive viewing deck, floating in the rim-flow pool above the waterhole, or watching the animals grazing from your glass-fronted bedroom suite, Africa’s splendour promises to overwhelm you.

We’ve have just come back from a 3 night stay at earth lodge. One word incredible. We got to see the big 5 and a lot more animals. The game drives were amazing. The Knowledge of the tracker (Donald) and our guide (Helen) was exceptional and they ensured we were able to see everything. We seen leopards, cheetahs and lions. You stop for a morning coffee out in the bush and sundowners in the evening, this was also excellently organised. The rooms are absolutely stunning with the biggest mini bar I’ve ever seen. The drink options are fantastic. Super comfortable rooms and luxurious. Food was superb. Each evening there was a different location for dinner excellently curated by the team at the hotel, with food prepared to a very high standard. We also used the gym facilities which were great. The service and operational standards at this hotel are exceptional. I would 100% stay at this lodge again it was such an incredible experience

From the vanilla scented towels, to the delicious food, exciting game drives and phenomenal staff, our stay at Shiduli was magical from the second we arrived and lives in our hearts long after we left.
Your helpful staff greeted us as we arrived and and were with us every step of the way... literally. We were escorted to our private villa by Gary, who my children absolutely adored. Richard, in the bar was on form and Gogo Dorris had faith that we would see lions... which we did.
Thandy and Karen were friendly, professional and made us feel like old friends. We will definitely be back and will bring our friends and family so they can share in this beautiful gem.

Set in the rolling hills of the 75 000 hectare malaria-free ‘Big 5’ Madikwe Game Reserve, Tuningi offers a five-star
African safari which is enhanced by personalised service in a friendly and relaxed environment.
This private lodge accommodates 16 guests in four Luxury and two double Family Suites.
Tuningi Safari Lodge is situated in the Madikwe Game Reserve and provides 5-star accommodation in an exclusive and private setting. Designed in its special African Colonial style, Tuningi merges the interior décor of 6 exclusive villas with the vastness of the bush to create an authentic safari experience.
The lodge’s unique concept offers deluxe accommodation for guests, whether they are planning a stay in a private atmosphere with family or an adventurous trip with a group of friends.
The main lodge consists of a luxurious lounge, dining area and bar. The infinity pool allows for an amazing view of the waterhole where you can observe the bustling of the wildlife. The way back from the pool leads you to an extensive wooden deck and the boma area.
Tuningi Safari Lodge’s exclusivity is emphasised by the limited number of rooms, allowing a total of only 16 guests at the Lodge at any time. Guests are accommodated in four Luxury and two Family Suites, with breathtaking views of the bush from private wrap-around decks. As one of the best Madikwe Game Reserve lodges, Tuningi has been designed in such a way that it is ideal for families, intimate groups or VIP’s in search of utter privacy.
Lion, elephant, buffalo, white and black rhino, leopard and the rare and endangered wild dog are just some of the unique sightings in the 75 000 hectare Big 5 Safari Reserve. Tuningi Safari Lodge’s game rangers are highly qualified and have sound knowledge of the fauna and flora within the Madikwe Game Reserve and pass on this knowledge and passion to guests during their game drives.
Children between 6 – 12 years will pay the child rate when sharing 1 chalet with 2 full paying guests (not the
Family Suite).
Creating triple suites in a Luxury Suite or adding an
additional child to the Family Suite will be subject to availability based on occupancy (please contact Reservations).
Children from the age of 6 are welcome.
